Mr Asif Parkar is a leading consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in knee and hip surgery. This includes knee replacement, hip replacement, ACL reconstruction, osteotomy, knee arthroscopy, joint replacement, as well as robotic hip and knee replacement, sports injuries, joint preservation surgery, and revision knee replacement procedures.
With over 20 years’ experience, Mr Parkar consults privately at Spire Hartswood Hospital, Spire London East Hospital, and Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital. His NHS practice is also based at Queen’s Hospital and King George Hospital. Notably, Mr Parkar is the lead for infection control in trauma and orthopaedics at Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Mr Parkar trained through the prestigious Royal London Trauma and Orthopaedic rotation programme. He has also completed an arthroplasty and sports knee North America fellowship based in Calgary, as well as fellowships at Barts Health and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust – all level one trauma centres and tertiary referral centres for complex orthopaedic procedures.
Mr Parkar is also one of the few surgeons in the country with specialised fellowship training in performing hip replacements through a direct anterior approach. This minimally invasive technique allows patients to return home on the same day of the procedure. Additionally, Mr Parkar holds a degree in computer navigation and robotic-assisted joint replacement and arthroscopy.
Furthermore, he has written several book chapters and he has published his research work in peer-reviewed journals. Mr Parkar is also part of the ARCP panel for the Royal London Registrars Training Programme and won the NHS innovation prize during his training and also best research prize during his fellowship. He believes in a holistic and evidence-based approach towards patient care.
